Web News

College House Enterprises, LLC is a small publisher of engineering textbooks for college and secondary school students.  Our books deal with science and engineering.  The emphasis is on hands-on design experience along with traditional engineering content.  Several of our titles describe methods to use LEGOs in teaching science and engineering concepts.

In 2006 and 2007 we have published fewer titles than in 2005 because of changes in technology markedly affected several of our titles.  A second reason for the reduction in the number of titles released was the fact that we emptied much of our new title pipeline in 2005.  We have been preparing manuscripts for several new titles that have been or will soon be published in 2007.  The titles published and the status of the  manuscripts in progress are described below:

1.  Dr. Zhang from the University of Maryland has completed his newest version of Engineering Design and Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, Version 3.0.  We released this version on August 4, 2006 and it was available for the fall semester that year.  We plan a new edition of this textbook to be released in the summer of 2008.

2.  Dr. Jim Dally from the University of Maryland is currently working with Dr. Jeff Suhling and Dr. Pradeep Lall from Auburn University on a book titled Mechanical Design of Electronic Systems.  The authors have completed the manuscript for this textbook and it is currently in press.  We expect to release it as a hardbound textbook late in December of 2007.

3.  Dr. Eric Wang from the University of Nevada at Reno is currently writing two new books that will deal with the new 32-bit NXT system controller.  The NXT was announced by LEGO Educational in January of 2006 and was released to the market in August 2006.  Dr. Eric Wang has completed the third edition of his popular title Engineering with LEGO Bricks and ROBOLAB.  This third edition of his textbook follows the outline of the second edition; however, the changes in programming with ROBOLAB 2.9.3 to drive the NXT is covered in detail.  The book is now available.

4.  Dr. Wang's second book titled "LEGO NXT - G for ROBOLAB Users: Migrating from the RCX to the NXT" is nearly complete and we expect to receive the manuscript before mid December.  This book covers the application of NXT-G software for programming the NXT microcontroller.   We expect to have this book read for customers to purchase before mid January of 2008.

5.  We are also working with Terry Green, an elementary school teacher, who is a whiz in the classroom using ROBOLAB and LEGO to teach children mathematics and science in the primary grades.  Terry has prepared an outline for class room activities for students in Grades one through five.  She has completed the manuscript for the first book with lessons for Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two.  This book is in press and we expect to release it in early December 2007.

6.  Barbara Bratzel has completed the second edition of her book "Physics by Design" that will feature the NXT that has been released by LEGO Educational.   Barbara's book covers programming in ROBOLAB  for both the RCX and the NXT microcontrollers.   We released this publication in February 2007.   We anticipate a period of several years where both the RCX and the NXT will be used by the LEGO community.  We plan to supply our customers with leading edge books using both of these controllers during this period.

7.  Jim Dally working with Kevin Calabro, Bill Fourney, Gary Pertmer and Guanming Zhang have completed the second edition of the title:  introduction to Engineering Design, Book 9, Second Edition: Engineering Skills and Hovercraft Missions.  The book is now available and will be used this fall at the University of Maryland @ College Park for their entire first year class in engineering.

8.  Bill Church a Physics teacher at Littleton High School is currently working with Natasha Perova, Tony Ford and Chris Rogers on a new Lego Engineering/Science book that is intended to be used as a supplement by high school Physics and Science teachers.  We expect the manuscript for this book to be completed in the spring of 2008 and to release the publication in the summer of 2008.

These titles are briefly described on other pages of this website.  More information about each title can be found on its individual title page.  Click on the Titles button, located at the top of this page, to access the column of buttons which in turn is used to access the title pages.

Review copies of our titles are available upon request.  Please state your University, Department and the courses that you teach when making your request.
